9th InnoGames Global Game Jam Summary

02/14/2023 - On the weekend of February 1, 93 jammers developed a total of 20 new computer games in just 48 hours. The lively participation made the event organized by InnoGames one of the biggest German Global Game Jams of the year.
Since 2009, the non-profit organization Global Game Jam, Inc. has annually called on the worldwide developer community to jointly develop new computer games on a centrally specified theme. Traditionally, only 48 hours are available for this.
At the invitation of the leading German mobile and browser game developer, budding and professional programmers, graphic artists, game and sound designers once again met at InnoGames from February 3 to 5, 2023 for what is now the 9th Global Game Jam. Of the total of 93 jammers, 70 took the opportunity to settle down in the game developer's auditorium called "Town Hall" and give free rein to their creativity in 20 specially assembled teams. All other jammers participated online. Each of the teams interpreted this year's theme "Roots" in its own unique way.
In the subsequent voting among all participants, the team "Pawsome Beats" was able to secure first place with its rhythm game "BeatRoots". Here, a dog helps harvest carrots, beets and radishes with tactical and musical flair.
The 2nd place went to the game "Debugging" of the team "Canning Factory". In this tower defense game, the heart of the forest is under attack by bugs and vermin. With the help of the forest spirits, the heart must be protected.
The third place went to the team "Jualaramandax" with the game "Growing Home". This is a visual novel that tells how the protagonist finds new social contacts after moving to Hamburg and explores interesting places along the way.
Details about these and all other games created can be found at igjam.eu.
