Fresh updates: Revamp of the Pollution Zone & Gameplay tuning

03/24/2025 - On March 27, "Once Human" will bring extensive updates that revise central game mechanics such as the Pollution Zone, resources and mods. These changes are intended to further improve the game experience and the strategic depth of the game.
The survival online game "Once Human" will receive a series of significant adjustments on March 27. The aim of these updates is to implement player feedback and optimize core areas of the game, such as the Pollution Zone, mod acquisition and resource balancing. The focus is on new challenges, strategic elements and an improved player experience.
Pollution Zone: Revamping the mechanics
The Pollution Zones have been fundamentally revised to bring more dynamism and strategy to the game. Players can now use Stardust Ore to suppress contamination and create effective items. However, mining Stardust Ore locally increases contamination, which increases the difficulty level. Sanity loss is now calculated precisely with a new formula, depending on the player's contamination resistance. In addition, the "Veil of Tranquility" is a new structure that offers players protection and weakens enemies.
Gameplay optimizations and new items
For more flexibility, anti-type effects that work against humanoid enemies and deviants are no longer limited to specific weapons. Resources can be used to craft anti-type items such as Suppression AP Ammo (against Deviants) and Penetration AP Ammo (against humanoid enemies). In addition, tactical items such as the "Wildfire Flamethrower" or "Mr. Wish's Rocket Launcher" will be introduced, allowing for new strategic approaches.
Improved resource management
Another problem concerns the uneven distribution of resources. Early and mid-game levels now offer more resources, while quantities are reduced in the late game. Especially in Pollution Zones there are higher yields of Stardust Ore - but with adjusted respawn rates that require long-term strategies.
Mod system: More fairness and better chances
The mod conversion system has also been revised. The probability of obtaining mods with a high rarity level has been increased. Epic attributes can now also appear, especially when combining low-quality mods. Players will also benefit from an improved rate for high-level mod conversions.
With these changes, the exploration and progression system should adapt better to the interests and playing habits of the community.
What are the changes to the Pollution Zone?
The update introduces dynamic contamination mechanics. Stardust Ore can suppress contamination and weaken Deviants, while mining it increases local contamination. Sanity is calculated more precisely, and the "Veil of Tranquility" actively protects players.
What new items will be introduced?
The updates include tactical items such as the Wildfire Flamethrower, Mr. Wish's Rocket Launcher with precise control and the Shield Matrix for protection in combat.
How does the update affect resources?
Resource management has been optimized: Yields in early and mid-game phases have been increased, while they have been adjusted in the late-game. Pollution Zones offer more Stardust Ore, but with longer respawn rates.
What has changed in the mod conversion system?
The probability of high-quality mods has been increased. Even conversions from low-quality mods now have a chance to gain epic attributes.
Why has the resource balancing been revised?
To compensate for the discrepancy between early resource scarcity and later surpluses and to provide a smoother gaming experience.
