01/19/2023 - Until January 20, 2023 at 11:59 p.m., game studios, publishers and newcomers can enter their games and prototypes in the race for an award. Top international productions can also be submitted in the "Best International Game" category. A total of 800,000 euros in prize money awaits the winners.
In the categories "Player of the Year" and "Studio of the Year," the community and the industry are in demand. Proposals can be submitted until January 31, 2023. The grand awards ceremony will take place on May 11, 2023 in Berlin. The "Player of the Year" category honors players who have made a name for themselves through special commitment or outstanding achievements, for example in e-sports, as cosplayers, through speedruns, Let's Plays or in other areas. Individuals worthy of the award can be nominated until January 31, 2023. From these, an expert jury will select three to a maximum of five nominees. These will then be submitted to both the main jury and the public for voting. The corresponding online voting will take place from March 20 to May 7, 2023.
In the "Studio of the Year" category, proposals can also be submitted until January 31, 2023, from which the expert jury will then select three nominees. The main jury will then select the winner. In addition to product success, factors such as quality as an employer, corporate development, innovation and social responsibility are also taken into account in this category. Companies without a currently published game can also receive an award.
In all other award categories, games can be submitted until Friday, January 20, 2023, 23:59. All games that were predominantly, i.e. usually at least 80 percent, developed in Germany are eligible. Submission of a game in multiple categories is permitted. Games that have been published or will be published between January 17, 2022 and the day of the award ceremony on May 11, 2023 may be submitted. This also applies to games that are in the early access or soft launch phase. A game can only be submitted once to the German Computer Game Award. Prototypes in the category "Young Talent Award Best Prototype" may not yet have been published at the time of the award ceremony. In the "Best Innovation and Technology" category, not only computer games but all innovative games-related projects are eligible. The winners will be determined in a two-stage process by expert juries and a main jury.
