The kings of battle
10/21/2023 - Gaijin Entertainment is pleased to announce that the online vehicular combat game War Thunder will be releasing the major content update "Kings of Battle" in the coming weeks.
The M109 self-propelled howitzer will be available as a new vehicle for several nations at once, while China offers its own alternative in the form of the PLZ-83. Fans of aircraft will gain access to the iconic F-111 tactical bomber, and Japanese ground forces will now have air defense provided by the advanced TAN-SAM-1C missile system. War Thunder's naval battles will see the return of two legendary battleships: the HMS Iron Duke and IJN Yamashiro. The update will also bring dozens of new combat vehicles, new maps and gameplay features.
The American M109 self-propelled howitzer has been in production since the early 1960s. It has been used in all US military operations on land, is still in service in dozens of countries and is used in various modern conflicts. Artillery is often called the "queen of battle", which perfectly reflects the role of this type of weapon on the battlefield.
The new update will include several variants of the M109: Germany and Italy will get the M109G with smoke grenade launchers, Israel will get the basic M109 variant, and the US and UK will get the M109A1 with an extended barrel. All M109 variants share a common projectile - a powerful 155-mm explosive grenade weighing more than 43 kg. Such a shell is enough to wipe out any lightly armored vehicle on the spot, and if it hits a weakly protected part of a vehicle, any tank is in trouble.
The F-111 is an American long-range tactical bomber that entered service in the late 1960s. It was the world's first mass-produced aircraft to introduce swing-wing and dual-jet engines with afterburners. The aircraft saw service in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm and was in service with the Australian Air Force until 2010.
Fans of the ocean-going fleet can already pre-order two new premium ships. The superdreadnought Iron Duke was the flagship of the British Grand Fleet in the epic Battle of Skagerrak. The Japanese battleship Yamashiro gained notoriety during its last engagement in the Surigao Strait, where it had to fight alone against six American ships of the same weight class.
