New jets, air defense systems and aerodynamic effects
03/08/2023 - Gaijin Entertainment announces the release of the "Sky Guardians" content update for the online vehicle combat game War Thunder. It brings dozens of new military vehicles, including the experimental Soviet Yak-141 vertical take-off fighter, the Czechoslovak M53/59 wheeled tank and the modern British Challenger 2E main battle tank.
The Yak-141 was developed as a fighter backbone for Soviet aircraft carriers under construction and set 12 world records for payload and carrying capacity. The program was discontinued in 1992 after an accident involving one of the prototypes and the collapse of the Soviet Union. With its excellent rate of climb, this aircraft quickly breaks the sound barrier and can accelerate to over 1800 km/h at high altitude with minimal payload. Good radar, a radar warning system and effective missile armament enable the Yak-141 to fill its role as an interceptor perfectly. Ground targets can be engaged with incendiary and 500-kg explosive bombs, machine guns and unguided rockets if necessary.
The update also improves the flight physics. For example, the steam cone effect, which occurs when the aircraft is flying at supersonic speeds due to local pressure differences, now looks more realistic. Other improvements include the new effect of contrails created by running engines and the effect of boundary layer separation at the wingtips.
Sky Guardians also brings the mechanics of ejection seats for aircraft of later eras. Animated is the separation of the cockpit canopy by explosive charges, the ejection of the pilot's seat from the cockpit, the separation of the pilot from the seat, and finally the deployment of the rescue parachute.
The first two French Navy ships, the light cruiser Duguay-Trouin and the destroyer Aigle, are now for sale. A closed beta test of the entire French Navy research tree will be launched in one of the next updates, and owners of one of the two ships will be the first to access it.
