Update brings new air defense system Panzir
02/28/2023 - The next major content update "Sky Guardians" for the online vehicle combat game War Thunder will be released in March. It will include the advanced Panzir-S1 air defense system, the AH-6M Little Bird ultra-light attack helicopter, new air and ground combat maps, as well as dozens of new military vehicle types and much more.
The 96K6 Panzir-S1, an air defense system with medium-range missiles and machine guns mounted on the KamAZ 8x8 truck chassis, entered service with the Russian Armed Forces in 2012. It combines a medium-range radar, 12 surface-to-air missiles and rapid-fire 30 mm machine guns with HE and AP ammunition capable of engaging both air and armored ground targets. The Panzir-S1 is capable of engaging targets up to 20 km away and tracking and engaging up to four targets simultaneously in a 45x45 degree sector. The Panzir system is also used in different variants by Morocco, Syria, Algeria, Iraq and other countries.
The AH-6M Little Bird is based on the MD 530 civilian helicopter and is designed primarily for special forces operations. The AH-6M was used in Iraq and in the famous 1993 U.S. Special Forces operation in Mogadishu. It is an ultralight aircraft without any armor, but it is agile, compact and armed to the teeth. The pilot has a Gatling gun, unguided and guided missiles, and Hellfire II anti-tank missiles at his disposal.
Finally, the update brings the new map "Pyrenees" as well as the winter versions of the maps "Seversk-13", "Ardennes" and "Maginot Line". The map "Pyrenees" is intended for aerial battles. Small villages with fields in the valleys, old castles and medieval monasteries compete for the most picturesque landscape motifs, and the clear water of the mountain lakes shimmers brightly in the green plateaus.
