New playable nation: Finland
10/14/2022 - Gaijin Entertainment announces "Fire and Ice", the next major content update for the vehicle combat simulation game War Thunder. It will bring Finnish tank and air forces into the game, as well as a new map inspired by the Scandinavian country.
The research trees of the other nations will also receive new ground vehicles, warships, planes and helicopters, including some that are equipped with a completely new type of weapon for War Thunder. The "Fire and Ice" update will be available for players to download in the coming weeks.
Finnish forces have a great combat experience, having participated in the Winter War against the USSR, World War II and a number of peacekeeping missions within NATO. The country generally used imported technology from various manufacturers (including looted vehicles) and adapted it to its own needs. For example, the British-made Vickers Mk.E light tank was not adopted by the British military, but was used by other countries, including Finland. Another unique example is the BT-42, a strange but very interesting conversion of captured Soviet BT-7 tanks, which were converted into an assault gun with a British 4.5-inch howitzer in a turret. After World War II, Finland bought military equipment from both the USSR and the West, giving players access to the strangest combinations of vehicles, such as the British Vampire FB 52A fighter jet and Soviet T-72M tank (the export variant of the T-72A, which first appears in the game).
The Finnish land and air vehicle research lines will become part of the Swedish research tree in War Thunder (similar to the South African vehicles in the British research tree). This approach will greatly expand tactical options for players who already play Swedish vehicles and want to experiment with their vehicle setup.
