Gaijin launches summer quest event in War Thunder
08/11/2022 - Gaijin Entertainment announced today that the "Summer Quest'' event has begun in War Thunder. Players will battle for four new military vehicles: the Hungarian Zrinyi I assault gun, the American F4D-1 Skyray carrier-based fighter jet, the German Leopard 2AV tank and the Japanese Haruna battleship.
Other prizes include new camouflage paints, as well as profile pictures, badges and decorations for naval and land vehicles dedicated to the summer adventure. The event will run through August 29. Each Summer Quest vehicle model is unique and will be a great addition to the collections of military history fans.
The Assault Gun
The Zrinyi I assault gun is a World War II vehicle designed and built entirely in Hungary and named after 16th century Hungarian national hero Miklós Zrínyi. The assault gun is based on the chassis of the Turán medium tank (also Hungarian) and is equipped with a 75-mm anti-tank gun. During some field trials, the Zrinyi I was equipped with external rocket launchers, and this version made it to War Thunder.
The tank
The Leopard 2AV is a prototype developed for testing in the US Army, where it competed against the XM-1 models. The tank is a transitional version from the Leopard 1 to the Leopard 2. The vehicle features a 105 mm L7A3 cannon, familiar from the Leopard 1, while the fire control system, engine and armor already resemble the early variants of the Leopard 2.
Death from above
The F4D-1 Skyray was the first supersonic fighter for aircraft carriers, entering service as early as 1956. The aircraft features an excellent rate of climb and can reach nearly the speed of sound even at sea level. The F4D-1 Skyray is armed with four forward-firing 20-mm Browning-Colt Mk12 machine guns, and nacelles with unguided FFAR missiles and AIM-9B Sidewinder guided missiles can be attached to the attachment points.
The Bulwark
The Haruna was designed as a Kongō-class battlecruiser and was launched as early as 1915, but did not see any further service in World War I. She was later converted into a so-called Fast Battleship and saw action in many battles throughout World War II, including the Battle of the Philippines, the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, and the naval and air battles in Leyte Gulf. The battleship was not lost until July 1945, when American aircraft attacked it in Kure Harbor off the Japanese mainland. The Haruna's main armament consists of eight 356-mm guns divided into four turrets, the 152-mm and 127-mm guns support the main calibers, and the 118 anti-aircraft guns drive off any enemy aircraft with a storm of fire.
