New Content Update: Demonweb Pits
07/06/2023 - Today Gearbox Publishing and Cryptic Studios announced that Neverwinter's 26th expansion, Demonweb Pits, will be released on PC, PlayStation and Xbox on July 18. This expansion for the free-to-play D&D MMORPG marks the conclusion of the Menzoberranzan storyline, in which adventurers save the Drow city of Menzoberranzan from the spider goddess Lolth.
In Demonweb Pits, players will venture into the Narbondellyn Quarter, a new adventure zone, and explore the territory of House Fey-Branche, a powerful house of Menzoberranzan. In addition to this new adventure zone, the expansion features a new campaign, the challenging "Demonweb Pits" vault with an epic battle against Lolth, exciting hunts throughout Menzoberranzan, and gameplay improvements, including a new, improved level advancement experience.
Spoiler alert: The following is information about the content of the last player expansion, Menzoberranzan.
Following the events of Menzoberranzan, Gromph Baenre, the Archmage of Menzoberranzan, has recovered his lost tome on demon summoning, Zhaun'ol'leal. The Archmage sifted through ancient texts in the Sorcere to find a way into the Demonweb Pits, Lolth's realm in the Abyss. This materialized a spell that broke under its own weight and connected the Material Plane and the Demon Web Pits. This allowed demons, Lolth included, to enter the Netherrealm, and a flood of Abyssal magic was unleashed in the Narbondellyn Quarter. To prevent Menzoberranzan from being torn apart, adventurers must team up with Noori, a brilliant Sorcere mage, seal the rift between the planes, and send Lolth back to the Abyss!
In the new expansion, Demonweb Pits, all those heroes brave enough to answer the call of Bregan D'aerthe will be able to discover numerous new contents in Neverwinter, among which is the new adventure zone Narbondellyn Quarter. There you will have to explore the territory of House Fey-Branche, a powerful house of Menzoberranzan, and help build the Plane Machine to push back Lolth.
In all districts of Menzoberranzan, adventurers will be able to take on challenging hunts that will pit them against terrible monsters from the Underrealm and the Demon Web Pits. These new hunts will include modifiers that players can use to make each hunt more challenging in order to earn better rewards. They consist of a mix of mechanics that were introduced as part of the hunts in the previous expansions Dragonslayer and Barovia. For those looking for a deadly challenge, there is the "Demon Net Pits" vault with new bosses, including a challenging fight against Lolth, new secrets, rewards and three difficulty levels to choose from (Normal, Adept and Master). In addition to this new vault, gameplay comfort improvements are introduced. Players will now be offered new objectives after reaching level 20 (the maximum level), and at the same time they will receive new rewards for leveling up. This will improve the player experience during level advancement and ease the transition into Neverwinter's endgame.
