Second major update for War Robots: Frontiers
01/31/2023 - MY.GAMES today released the Tricksters update with a bunch of new content for War Robots: Frontiers, the third-person mech shooter from the in-house Pixonic team. The update is part of the developers' roadmap to continuously improve the game during the Early Access phase.
The Tricksters update introduces the brand new map 'Mont'. Supposedly easy to control beacons are located near the starting positions of the teams, but the way to victory leads over a plateau. The goal is to capture the beacon on the mountain early and quickly build defenses. The attacking team has a tactical advantage here, as destructible structures on the hill can be attacked to make them fall on the enemy.
The update also includes two new robots, three new weapon systems for use on multiple mechs, and two new ability modules. This will allow players to create thousands of new combinations in the in-game hangar, which will be further expanded in future updates. Two new robot series, Raven and Loki, bring more deadly tactics to the fight. Raven attacks with a special ability that fires a volley of deadly projectiles - the perfect choice for a pressure attack. Loki fools his opponents with deception holograms and switches to stealth mode to gain the upper hand. He may not be the toughest, but Loki's diversionary tactics are second to none.
New high-tech weapons increase firepower and open up new combat options. Scatter fires sonic attacks that can damage through solid objects at a certain distance, while Shocktrain fires precision lasers that deal damage to another nearby target after the first hit. Zoo, on the other hand, is an energy-saving heavy option that can be used to take out unsuspecting enemies.
Finally, two new ability modules offer the possibility to change the combat. Blink increases mobility with a lightning-fast sprint, and Passive Shield provides additional protection by converting incoming damage into regeneration with its absorbing ability. The Tricksters update also improves localization, offers a new default frame rate of 60 FPS to avoid overheating some GPUs, and updates store content and level rewards.
This is the second major update planned for the Early Access phase while the developers take the next steps based on player feedback. Improvements to the graphical quality, changes to the game's balance, and other technical improvements are also planned between now and the game's full release.
Players can participate in Early Access by purchasing a Pioneer Pack, available through the official website and Steam. Pioneer Packs include access to the game as well as useful items. Pioneers can participate in the game's development by trying out new features first and supporting the developers with feedback and suggestions. After the Early Access phase, the game will be launched as a free-to-play version during 2023.
