Review: Game Update 7.4 brings fresh dynamics to SWTOR

Star Wars: The old Republic

12/21/2023 - With the recently released update 7.4, "Chains in the Dark", Star Wars: The Old Republic expanded its universe once again. The update was released on December 5 and brought with it a number of exciting new features.

New daily area: Kessan's Landing

A major expansion is Kessan's Landing, a new daily area on the planet Ord Mantell. Players can complete repeatable missions here, earn new achievements and collect reputation rewards. Additionally, there are a series of side missions that take players across the galaxy to assemble a useful piece of technology for Kessan's Landing.

Continuation of Lane Vizla's story

The story of Lane Vizla continues in Update 7.4. Players can experience a series of missions that tie in with the events of "Showdown on Ruhnuk" (Game Update 7.2). They will meet Lane Vizla himself, an expert in droid history called "The Curator" and an assassin droid HK-24.

New world boss: FR3-D0M

Another highlight is the new world boss FR3-D0M. Players must watch out for burning plasma stains that FR3-D0M leaves behind in battle. There is a chance that the boss will drop a unique mount, the Mantellian Separatist Hover Turret.

Revision of the Galactic Trade Network

The GTN has been completely revamped to make it more accessible, but at the same time more familiar to players. Changes include an enhanced search function and a simplified process for offering and claiming items.

Changes to the equipment

Full details of the equipment changes coming with Update 7.4 can be found in a dedicated forum post on the game's official website.

Cinematic lighting updates

New character lighting has been enabled for all cinematic content. This system utilizes ambient light for more accurate shadows and provides detailed self-shadowing for characters as well as more control over lighting in cinematic sequences.

New in the Cartel Market

The update introduced a number of new items to the Cartel Market, including the Defiant Maverick armor set inspired by Sabine Wren and the Darth Nul dual saber. In addition, new improved color packs using specularity (shine) have been released for a limited time.

Life Day Event

The Life Day event returned and began on December 12. Players can obtain a new outfit, the Life Day Officer armor.
