12/09/2024 - Overwatch 2 inspires with an impressive donation of 12.3 million dollars for breast cancer research. Season 14 also brings the new hero Hazard, nostalgic 6v6 role selection and a host of other content such as the Winter Wonderland event.
A community for a good cause
Overwatch 2 is celebrating a remarkable success: the community raised 12.3 million dollars for breast cancer research in collaboration with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). This sum was raised through the sale of the exclusive "Mercy in Pink" skin and other in-game offers. All proceeds from the campaign, minus platform fees and taxes, went directly to projects to prevent and cure breast cancer.
A similar campaign in 2018 already raised 12.7 million dollars. With this year's proceeds, the Overwatch community has contributed a total of over 25 million dollars to support life-saving research. The funds have financed innovative projects such as AI-supported diagnoses and new treatment methods.
Hazard: A rebellious hero steps up
In season 14, Hazard, a Scottish tank hero, joins the hero gallery. With his ability to build walls, he opens up new strategic possibilities in the game. These walls can be used both to protect the team and to hinder opponents. Hazard's design and abilities reflect his rebellious spirit, inspired by his faction, the Phreaks.
6v6 role selection: Nostalgia meets modernity
A special highlight of Season 14 is the limited-time event "6v6 Role Selection". This sees the return of Overwatch's classic team format: two tanks, two damage heroes and two supporters. The combination of nostalgic gameplay and modern game balance allows you to relive the synergy and strategy of the original game. The event runs from December 17 to January 6.
Winter Wonderland and Battle Pass
The Winter Wonderland event brings back festive game modes such as Mei's Snowball Fight and offers numerous rewards, including the "Casual Winter" skin for Hanzo. At the same time, the Battle Pass allows players to unlock skins, cosmetic extras and credits. With the Premium Battle Pass, additional legendary skins such as "Thor" for Reinhardt or "Odin" for Sigma are available.
