Alliance Tournament XX: Guristas take over and bring new prize ships
08/22/2024 - Alliance Tournament XX is just around the corner, starting with the feeder tournaments on August 24. The event brings surprising changes, including new prize ships and the takeover by the Guristas.
The Alliance Tournament XX is in the starting blocks and the anticipation is high. After a turbulent run-up to the event, during which it was announced that the Guristas had taken over the organization of the tournament from CONCORD, the feeder tournaments will begin on 24 August. In these preliminary rounds, 50 teams will compete for 28 coveted spots for the main event in October, where a total of 32 teams will compete against each other. The feeder tournaments will take place over two weekends and will be broadcast live on CCPTV.
New tournament mode and direct invites
Last year's Alliance Tournament XIX was full of surprises and exciting twists and turns. In recognition of their outstanding performances, the top 4 teams have been directly invited to this year's Alliance Tournament XX: Fraternity, The Tuskers Co, IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII, and Truth. Honor. Light. These teams will join the top 28 teams from the feeder tournaments in October to compete in the main event in the tried-and-true double elimination format.
The feeder tournaments: schedule and teams
The feeder tournament begins on August 24 at 16:00 UTC, with the opening match between the Rusty Hyenas Clan and Hole Control already eagerly awaited. The broadcast will start at 15:45 on CCPTV. Viewers can look forward to expert commentary from experienced player-casters and analysts to help both new and seasoned players get a feel for the action. Another highlight is the ability to test your knowledge of the tournament action via Twitch's native prediction feature. Viewers can also exchange CCP TV LP for exclusive SKINs and other prizes.
New prize ships and rewards
For the first time since ATXII ten years ago, the Guristas are back in charge of the tournament, bringing some notable changes. The number of prize ships has been increased from two to three, and for the first time in the tournament's history, an AT battleship will be awarded. The new ships, the Sidewinder, the Cobra and the Python, are based on the original CONCORD ships, but have been customized by the Guristas.
These extraordinary ships will be distributed among the best teams in the tournament according to their ranking. A total of 385 ships will be awarded, with the number and type of ships depending on the ranking in the tournament. In addition to the ships, teams can also win special SKINs, which will be available in limited quantities. These SKINs are available for four different CONCORD ships this year: the Pacifier, the Enforcer, the Monitor and the Marshal.
Medals and historical honors
In addition to the prizes, some popular traditions are also returning this year. For example, the Alliance Tournament Cup, which was held until the 16th tournament, will be awarded again and will feature the names of previous winners. The popular medals are also back: every player who makes it through the feeder tournaments into the main event will receive a medal, which can be displayed in the character portrait. In addition, medals will also be awarded retroactively to participants in previous tournaments.
With these exciting new features and the return of old traditions, Alliance Tournament XX promises to be a highlight for the community. The coming weekends offer plenty of opportunities to see the best teams and the impressive new prize ships in action.
