Wargaming helps victims of the destruction of the Kachowka Dam
06/14/2023 - Wargaming supports the victims of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant and donates four million UAH (about 100,000 euros) to United24, the official fundraising platform of Ukraine.
These funds will be used to purchase equipment for rescue operations in the region, such as rescue boats and rafts, motor pumps, excavators, bulldozers and cranes, firefighting equipment, diving suits, barriers, portable water filtration stations, etc.
The wargaming team respects the work of volunteers and Ukrainian helpers who rescued people and animals in the first days of the disaster. With the donation we want to help those affected and provide financial resources that will help to eliminate the consequences of the destruction of the power plant.
Kachowka hydroelectric power plant
The Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (Ukrainian Каховська ГЕС Kakhovska HES) was a run-of-river power plant located on the Kakhovka Reservoir in Nova Kakhovka, Ukraine, a port city south of the reservoir and on the left bank of the Dnieper River. The plant was operated by the state-owned company Ukrhydroenergo. The dam, as well as the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant, were captured in the spring of 2022 during the Russian invasion of Ukraine by units of the Russian army advancing from Crimea. On June 6, 2023, the central part of the dam and the powerhouse were destroyed, presumably after a blast, after which water began to leak from the Kakhovka reservoir.
