Submarine updates and piñata fun in March
03/13/2024 - Wargaming is bringing a long-awaited collection of Commonwealth cruisers to Early Access. This brand new set of ships will be accompanied by a new event pass with two progression lines - with many rewards to unlock. In addition, the Piñata Hunt event is coming to World of Warships just in time for April 1st with a new game mechanic.
The piñata hunt is full of rewards
It's no joke: starting at the end of March, there will be an in-game piñata hunt for April Fools' Day! Level VIII through IX ships will compete in two teams of seven players each on a modified and uniquely decorated version of the Hotspot map in an attempt to sink a special piñata ship. As part of the fun, each ship participating in this event will be dressed in a random selection of event camouflages and explode in a brand new animation when sunk. As a reward for their efforts, players will receive special piñata coins that can be exchanged in the Armory for permanent theme camouflages, a patch and a commemorative flag.
This event also introduces a brand new mechanic to the game: auxiliary consumables. With a range of eight unique consumables, players can unlock up to five consumables through purchase or by completing combat missions.
Commonwealth cruisers rule the seas
A brand new series of ten cruisers representing the Commonwealth nations has dropped anchor in Early Access. These historic ships, which can be found in the tech tree, are known for their high damage per minute offset by a slow turret speed. The guns of the light and heavy cruisers in this series start at 152 mm and increase to 203 mm from Tier VIII onwards. They are given additional firepower by the inclusion of torpedoes from Tier III.
Along with the cruisers, there is also the new Commonwealth Team Event Pass. With two 20-tier progression lines to explore, players can unlock a wealth of rewards. These include the historical commander Harold Farncomb, who comes with six skill points, as well as cloaks, containers and tokens that can be redeemed in the armory. In this event pass, the daily missions are replaced by weekly missions, which simplifies game progression compared to previous passes.
Submarines receive underwater improvements
Rounding out the March update of World of Warships are a number of new features and improvements for submarines. These include adjustments to torpedoes to enable range-based damage, improved perception of distance to other submarines and improved visibility of underwater terrain.
The American aircraft carriers Independence, Yorktown and Essex are leaving Early Access with update 13.2. In addition, a brand new season of Ranked Battles will be introduced on March 13, pitting Tier VIII and higher ships against each other in two teams of six, and four new grudge matches will begin on March 15.
