Spanish ships provide a breath of fresh air
07/17/2023 - Wargaming is providing plenty of new content with its July update. This update brings a new fleet of Level II-X Spanish cruisers to Early Access, and news of the game's collaboration with iconic cartoon character Popeye the Sailor and the FORCE BLUE charity for World Ocean Month.
Spanish Cruisers in Early Access
To kick off the update, World of Warships welcomes an all-new branch of Spanish cruisers to the research tree. From Tier II to Tier X, this lineup includes nine ships with good armor, long-range main guns and good damage per minute with the bump fire mode, and short-range torpedoes. These ships can be acquired in Early Access in a variety of ways - including through random packs and by collecting consecutive sets. In addition to the ships, these sets also offer plenty of themed Spanish content, including a commemorative flag and special permanent camouflage that players can unlock.
This set of cruisers also features numerous consumables that can be used in combat. Hydroacoustic search is available for ships level IV and up, and defensive AA fire is available for ships level VI and up. Ships level VII and up also have the consumables repair team, fighter, and reconnaissance plane.
Popeye the Sailor and World Ocean Month
Following the launch of the collaboration with world-renowned character Popeye the Sailor as part of World Ocean Month, World of Warships is pleased to announce that the community raised a grand total of $11,720 for the marine conservation and veterans' charity FORCE BLUE. In addition, World of Warships donated $50,000 to the veteran support and ocean conservation charity. A World Oceans Day livestream was held on June 8 and included key representatives from the organization.
Upon completion of the collaboration, Jim Ritterhoff, co-founder and director of FORCE BLUE, said,"It was truly phenomenal to partner with World of Warships for World Ocean Month! The support we received from the team was incredible, and the funds raised will help us train and deploy many more divers for our missions."
World of Warships and FORCE BLUE plan to continue their collaboration to protect the world's oceans and help veteran special operations forces.
Azure Lane Returns
The July update also brings the fifth wave of Azure Lane to the game, bringing three new special commanders to World of Warships. Colorado, Cheshire and Prince Henry are equipped with their own unique voices and join the ranks of Azure Lane commanders. They are ready to join the fray and can take the helm of two new ships, AL Cheshire and AL Prinz Heinrich. In addition, this collaboration brings three new permanent camouflages to equip the ships Roon, Saint Louis and Neptune.
Artillery, Somme and more
At the end of update 12.6, a new branch of European destroyers is fully researchable. These ships use main guns with high-explosive shells and can resort to high-speed torpedoes as secondary weapons. The highlight of these ships is the combined use of the consumable smoke generator and surveillance radar for ships of level VIII and above, which makes them real all-rounders in combat.
Starting July 24, the game will be expanded with the new "Battle of the Somme" collection, which is based on one of the biggest battles of the First World War. Players can collect 60 different items in both containers and missions to unlock the British Tier IX premium destroyer Somme and a unique camouflage and commander with ten skill points.
