World Ocean Month in World of Warships
06/01/2023 - Wargaming has announced more details about its latest charity partnership as part of its collaboration with King Features cult character Popeye the Sailor. In June, during World Ocean Month, the limited-time promotion will benefit the marine conservation organization FORCE BLUE with in-game themed content.
FORCE BLUE was co-founded and is led by actor and Recon Marine veteran Rudy Reyes. World of Warships, which has long supported veteran and history nonprofits, is entering the field of marine conservation with this collaboration by partnering with Popeye the Sailor to support the FORCE BLUE charity.
To strengthen FORCE BLUE's efforts, Wargaming will make a $50,000 donation to the organization. In addition to this donation, 10 er net revenue from the sale of Popeye items will also be donated to the charity after the campaign is completed.
Founded in 2016, the FORCE BLUE charity's mission is to solve two problems: the degradation of our planet's marine ecosystems and the difficulties that far too many military veterans face when their service ends. FORCE BLUE has taken this as an opportunity to train highly skilled veterans from Special Forces units under the guidance of renowned scientists and environmentalists. Through this training, these veterans will be able to travel to different parts of the world and conduct missions to conserve and restore marine biodiversity.
FORCE BLUE will also join World of Warships to host a World Oceans Day Twitch livestream on June 8. The livestream will feature two key figures from the FORCE BLUE team. Rudy Reyes, actor, U.S. Recon Marine veteran and co-founder of the organization, will join the stream along with Steve "Gonzo" Gonzalez, U.S. Navy SEAL veteran and director of FORCE BLUE Special Projects & Events. The two will discuss the charity's dual mission and provide insight into the vital importance of marine conservation and how the charity's work supports veterans' mental health during and after their transition back to civilian life.
"FORCE BLUE is honored to partner with World of Warships to support World Ocean Month. I don't think there is a single veteran on our team who is not a fan of Popeye. Working with them while championing our mission to preserve and restore the world's marine ecosystems is an incredible opportunity," commented Jim Ritterhoff, co-founder and CEO of FORCE BLUE.
The Popeye Charity Bundle, available June 1, includes two commanders, Popeye and Bluto, with unique voice-overs, as well as two flags and a unique camouflage for the Tier VII USS Colorado. In addition, World of Warships will feature a special "Save the Ocean" chain of weekly missions from June through June 30, with a free themed container waiting at the end.
This follows the recent content update for World of Warships, which was released on May 24 and brought Early Access European Destroyers, Pan-American Cruisers and Convoy Battle Mode to the game. World of Warships is the world's leading free-to-play naval war game from developer and publisher Wargaming, where players can access the largest library of over 600 historically accurate warships from the 20th century.
