Popeye the Sailor spotted in World of Warships

04/24/2023 - Wargaming today announced an official partnership with pop culture icon Popeye the Sailor as part of a special collaboration celebrating World Ocean Month. This collaboration will take place in conjunction with a charity partnership, details of which will be announced before the content is released.
World Ocean Month, held each June, is an annual initiative to raise awareness of the work needed to preserve the largest ecosystem on Earth. The Popeye Charity Bundle features in-game commanders Popeye and Bluto, including custom voice acting, two flags and a unique camouflage for the Tier VII USS Colorado.
Popeye, the iconic spinach-eating sailor and champion of clean oceans, is part of King Features Syndicate, a Hearst unit and home to some of the world's most beloved entertainment characters. A longtime advocate for ocean conservation, Popeye announced in 2020 that he would represent The SeaCleaners, an organization dedicated to the long-term and global protection of the oceans by joining the fight against plastic pollution and raising awareness for ocean conservation efforts. Popeye's partnership with Wargaming continues its commitment to sustainability and ocean conservation.
World of Warships is the world's leading free-to-play naval game from Wargaming, pitting players against each other in the largest library of historically accurate warships of the 20th century. Because of the game's deep roots in the military community, Wargaming has long supported veteran and nonprofit institutions with historical themes.
"Popeye the Sailor is a beloved childhood character for many of us here at Wargaming, so it's very special to be able to bring him into our waters. It feels even better knowing that we're helping to raise awareness for ocean conservation while bringing joy to our players," commented Marko Valentic, Global Business Development and Communications Director at Wargaming.
"For one of the world's most iconic sailors in pop culture, we couldn't think of a better gaming partner for Popeye than World of Warships," said Jarred Goro, Vice President, Licensing, North America, King Features."We're very pleased that World of Warships' passion for fighting to protect the seas aligns with our own, and we look forward to bringing this collaboration in-game to fans around the world."
