Forge of Empires celebrates its tenth birthday!
03/30/2022 - InnoGames is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its strategic city-building game Forge of Empires. To celebrate the anniversary, players can look forward to a brand new event with special rewards that runs from today until April 18.
"Forge of Empires has accomplished an incredible amount. Originally released only for browsers, the title continues to improve on its home platform to keep that audience entertained for years to come. In addition, the company has also taken mobile game fans along for the ride on four different platforms. The game has become a huge, worldwide hit. Internally, we continue to work on the game with one of the largest teams dedicated to improving the overall quality of the game and delivering exciting updates on a weekly basis. I would like to thank all the teams at our internally as well as all the players for creating a great experience and an equally fun game," said Stefan Walter, Studio Director at InnoGames.
To date, all players combined have spent more than 311,482 years playing the game and have built approximately 60 million cities in that time. When first released, there were only six eras in total. With the release of Space Flight: Venus, there are now 20 eras and game content. On average, it takes players 2,381 days or 6.5 years to progress through all eras. During this time, they can choose from and construct over 1,000 different buildings. Over time, other key features such as guild expeditions and cultural settlements have been added, providing players with even more content.
In addition to the successful conversion to mobile devices, InnoGames ensured the game`s long-lasting success by completing the automatic conversion from Flash to HTML5. In doing so, InnoGames was the first game developer in the world to accomplish this using the open source compiler HAXE and without code freeze. Thus, the future of the browser version of the title was secured when Adobe discontinued support for Flash in 2020. With the HTML5-based version in modern browsers and the mobile apps for Android and iOS, players can continue to take advantage of cross-platform availability that makes it possible to switch between different platforms with one account. Forge of Empires continues to be one of the most successful strategy games in the world, on computers as well as mobile devices. In 2019, the leading strategy game reached 500 million in lifetime sales, with more than half of those lifetime sales having been achieved in the previous two years. In addition to ongoing content updates, the mobile version continues to act as a key growth driver.
To properly celebrate the tenth anniversary milestone, a brand new event with a board game theme is now in the starting blocks. The goal is simple: move across the board. With each advance across the board, players embark on a journey through the unique ages of Forge of Empires. The Forge fact finder not only shows players their next quest, but also provides a wealth of interesting information about the history of Forge of Empires. By completing these quests and logging in daily, as well as events in their own city, players can earn paper money that is used to roll dice and advance on the game board. The variety of squares to land on results in an equally unique variety of rewards. The main prize is a Golden Planetary Machine, but merely a new building would certainly not be enough for this great event. That`s why there are also the Great King, the Great Queen and the Stage of Ages as additional rewards. Also, new portraits are available for players to share their progress and skill in the board game with their friends.
