Forge of Empires players can meet other characters and earn great rewards with their hero, a playable character who rides a horse through a picture-perfect landscape. In the process, players must collect travel rations by having their hero take care of events and complete quests. They then give these to the hero and his horse so they have enough power to continue their journey. As the hero rides from town to town, he meets friends along the way, and players can choose between three different characters for each section. Each of these characters guards a mysterious box that will help the player get a little closer to the Grand Prize.

There are five heroes to choose from for the event, which adds even more tactical depth to the game. Choosing the right hero can be crucial to progressing in the event, as each has different costs, abilities and rewards.

The main prize this year is the Hero Tavern Building, which can be upgraded to level 10. Fully upgraded, it produces coins, population, satisfaction, Forge points, and increases attack and defense values for the player's Attacking Army. Other buildings, such as the Knight's Pavilion, can also be gained. This provides additional goods and two random units from the building's age.
