In Lightfall, Guardians face the task of preventing the apocalypse by stopping the Witness and his newest apprentice, Calus. Along the way, the Guardians encounter the Shadow Legion and fearsome, formidable new tormentors bent on destroying the high-tech capital of Neomuna.

Guardians will have a new focus in Lightfall. With the help of Strang, they can tug at the strings that hold the universe together and wield unprecedented combat and movement abilities. Strang gives each Keeper class powerful new attacks that they can use in unique ways, as well as a new shimmy ability that greatly enhances their mobility and passage through the game.

Lightfall's companion season, Season of Resistance, releases on the same day as the new Destiny 2 expansion. Guardians are called into action by Mara Sov and the Queen's Guard to investigate the pyramid outposts popping up on the planet and confront humanity's greatest enemies. Players move onto the Resistance Battlegrounds - a new three-person activity that comes with the season - where Guardians use their newly acquired Powers of the Awakened to open portals into the Ascendant Plane and confront the Shadow Legion.

The new raid and the race for World First will start on March 10.

Shortly after Lightfall launches, Bungie will unlock its newest raid, Root of Nightmares. Destiny raids are demanding top-tier activities for six experienced guardians who not only have fighting skills, but must also cooperate and overcome seemingly impossible challenges.

"Root of Nightmares" will be released to all Lightfall players on March 10 at 18:00 CET (17:00 UTC). With the launch of the raid, Bungie will also launch a worldwide contest to crown the first task force in the world to complete the raid. The successful strike team will receive a unique "World First" title belt for each strike team member and, of course, the glory of having taken the "World First" title. In the days following the raid's release, the winning team will be officially announced.

Destiny 2: Lightfall

Calus has returned as a disciple of the Witness and threatens the neon city of Neomuna with destruction. Guardians must brave the apocalypse, knowing that their end begins now.

• Strang - The newest elemental force in Destiny 2, Strang is powered by darkness and allows guardians to use the cosmic strands of the universe to unleash powerful attacks. Each Keeper class uses Strang in their own unique way, and all Keepers with Strang abilities can use the new Shimmy ability to significantly increase their mobility in and out of combat.
• Neomuna - This neon-lit city on Neptune is the newest destination in Destiny 2. Neomuna is under siege by Calus' Shadow Legion and is also home to the Keepers' newest allies, the valiant Curruli, who protect the city from invasion.
• Legendary Campaign - The "Legendary Campaign" mode returns in Lightfall. Designed for players who want to experience Destiny 2 's compelling story while testing their skills and earning better rewards.
• Loadouts and Mod Customization Capabilities - New loadouts and mod customization capabilities make customizing a Guardian faster and easier than ever before. New mods can be viewed and placed through a single mod customization screen, and equipment and mods can be stored in easily accessible loadout slots.
• Appreciations and Keeper Ranks - Lightfall ships with two new social systems designed to encourage friendly play and teamwork, and help players better understand each other's skills and experience. Appreciations allow players to give a variety of awards to squad members when they have completed joint activities. Keeper ranks provide a quick overview of each Keeper's skills and experience level. Players can advance in Keeper ranks by earning Appreciations and completing in-game activities.
• Terminal Overload - In this new Destination activity, Keepers fend off attacks from both the Vex and the Cabal as they attempt to overrun the Neptunian city with their forces.
• New Raid: Root of Nightmares - A terrifying entity from an unknown time and place has made itself known. Guardians must confront the ancient threat growing at the gates of their home. The raid will begin on March 10.

The Lightfall Annual Passport Edition is now available for all platforms. In addition to the Standard Edition content of Lightfall(Lightfall expansion, raid, and access to the current season), the Lightfall Annual Pass Edition includes:

Season of Resistance

Destiny 2 's newest season - Season of Resistance - is dawning and players can start earning new season ranks now. In the Season of Resistance, the Vanguard turns to their closest allies to respond after the attack on the Traveler. The Guardians must master the righteous forces of the Awakened to stand against the advancing Shadow Legion and prove themselves as the Queen's Guard.

• Resistance Battlegrounds - In this new three-player activity, Guardians must bypass Shadow Legion security systems by entering their outposts from the Ascendant Plane. Navigate the Abyss and free missing prisoners by completing rituals that open pathways to safety.
• Vanguard Ops Playlist Update - The updated Vanguard Ops Playlist now includes Raid Battlegrounds and Psi-Ops Battlegrounds, and will also include revised versions of two Strikes: "The Arms Dealer" and "Lake of Shadows."
• KeeperGames 2023 - The annual clash of the Keeper classes will take place in May and is free to all Destiny 2 players. Hunters, Warlocks, and Titans will compete against each other to complete events, collect medallions to earn valuable rewards, and earn a commemorative statue in the tower to brag about for an entire year.
